Who can be a Diaspora Fellow?

Anyone who is under the age of 35, has a Bachelor's degree in any field, and has completed high school outside of Kosova, can apply to our program.

Where will I live?

As soon as the Fellows are accepted into the program, depending on which municipality you will settle to work as a teacher, Teach For Kosova will take care to help you find residence in that municipality.

Will I be paid?

Yes, Fellows will be paid when they begin teaching in the classroom. The amount will depend on the Municipality they are placed in.

When will I start being paid?

Assuming the 2023-24 school year starts on time, Fellows will begin being paid in September 2023.

What will I teach?

The subject Fellows teach will be aligned to both what they studied at University as well as what the needs are in our partner municipalities.

Where will I teach?

Once you are accepted into the Fellowship program, Teach For Kosova will work with both you and our partner municipalities to find a placement location.

How long do I have to be in Kosove?

Teach For Kosova is a two-year Fellowship program. For Diaspora applicants, the second year of the Fellowship is optional. Therefore, the required portion of the Fellowship is from mid-June 2023 until June 2024.

When do I need to come to Kosova?

You will need to come to Kosova by the end of June, 2023 to participate in the program.

Can I legally teach in Kosova?

Teach For Kosova is working with relevant ministries to ensure that all diaspora applicants can both reside and teach in Kosova legally.

Do I need to be a current teacher?

No, you do not need to be a teacher nor have any prior teaching experience to apply for our program.

Do I need to have studied education?

No, the only requirement to apply for our Fellows is to have a Bachelor’s Degree – in any field by an accredited University.

Are there any costs associated with the program?

There are no costs associated with being a Teach For Kosova fellow.

Is employment guaranteed?

Yes, for Diaspora fellows, employment is guaranteed. We will work with partner municipalities as well as external donors to ensure this.

Does TFK cover costs associated with living in Kosova?

No, it is expected that the employment/salary you receive for your work is used to cover personal expenses while in Kosova.

Is speaking Albanian fluently required?

While it is expected that you can have a conversation in Albanian, we do not expect Fellows from the diaspora to be fluent in speaking or writing.

When is TFK’s Summer Institute?

Teach For Kosova’s Summer Institute runs between the first week of July 2023 until the end of the first week of August 2023.

What happens to us after the Fellowship or as TFK alumni?

After the Fellowship, alumni of our program will be supported to continue working in Kosova’s education system. For alumni who no longer wish to work directly in schools or education, TFK offers continual professional development support and opportunities for alumni who wish to stay engaged in other ways.

What are the main benefits of taking part of the program?

Teach For Kosova is simultaneously a teaching and leadership development Fellowship. Our Fellows will gain work experience, will gain an understanding of Kosova’s education system, and will be equipped with the teaching and leadership skills to be successful in our Fellowship and beyond.

Can Summer Institute be completed online?

No, Summer Institute must be attending in person.

Will my work experience be taken into consideration in my home country?

Yes, prior work experience, while not necessary, will be taken into consideration for all application.

Can I go back to visit my home country?

Yes, Fellows are permitted to go and visit their country of origin – but only in accordance with the Kosova school year calendar.
