About the project:
Teach For Kosova (TK) through this project aims to catalyze climate education in Kosova by addressing key challenges in curriculum integration, teacher readiness, and a needed mindset shift to recognize climate education as a driver for achieving learning objectives – and as a catalyst for economic growth. The project will focus on supporting our teachers to integrate resilient climate education into classrooms while at the same time emphasizing the empowerment of girls as influential advocates for local change.
The project involves a training camp for teachers of TK’s 5th cohort, extracurricular activities for elementary school children implemented by our teachers, climate change fairs organized within schools, the recruitment of two biology teachers for our sixth cohort, and the creation of a comprehensive teacher/children-friendly virtual handbook on climate education that will be shared with elementary schools throughout Kosova. Through these activities, we aspire to create a climate-aware communities with a particular focus on Kosova’s most vulnerable communities. We aim to instill both the confidence and knowledge necessary in our teachers to foster a sustainable and replicable model for climate education in Kosova. The project not only seeks to raise awareness but actively engages system teachers (non-TK teachers), children, and parents in becoming advocates for environmental sustainability. This project will also pioneer the integration of climate education within TK’s Summer Institute that will ensure sustainability of climate education for all upcoming TK cohorts.
To achieve this, Teach For Kosova is looking for an Expert on Climate Education.
Expert will compile the training materials and facilitate the 3-day training on these topics:
- Understanding Climate Change and Its Relevance to Education;
- Global impacts of the climate change and regional implications for Kosova;
- Importance of educational resources in climate education;
- Integrating Climate Education into Teaching;
- Successful climate education initiatives in other countries;
- Developing simple lesson plans that incorporate climate-related topics into subjects that fellows teach;
- Empowering Girls as Climate Change Agents;
- Intersectionality of gender and climate change;
- Organizing Climate Awareness Initiatives within Schools;
- Planning and organizing climate change fairs within schools.
Expert will facilitate also a one-day workshop on design and create a teacher/children-friendly Climate Education and Leadership Virtual Handbook.
The creation and utilization of this Virtual Handbook for teachers and elementary students in Kosova will serve as a transformative tool in advancing climate education throughout the country. Through cooperation with our teachers who have already integrated climate education into their teaching methodologies, the handbook will benefit from their practical insights, lessons learned, and successfully proven experiences - ensuring its relevance and effectiveness.
The expert's engagement period is 3 days from July 15th to August 4th and 5 days of workshops during the month of September 2024 to March 2025.
